The Netherlands, one of the most diverse countries in the world.
According to CBS (Central Bureau for Statistics), there are 17.9 million people living in the Netherlands, 8.7 million men and 8.8 million women. With 192 different nationalities, the Netherlands can be considered one of the most diverse countries in the world.
As a professional portrait photographer, Maurice Jager photographs people daily, and specifically their faces. His fascination with the human face and his interest in people and their backgrounds were the basis for the creation of this project.
According to Maurice Jager, population groups, nationalities, and the origins of people in the Netherlands are too often expressed in numbers. He also believes that there is too much misunderstanding and unfamiliarity among the diversity of origins. Maurice wants to give everyone a presence in his project.
By getting to see, know, and appreciate each other better, Maurice Jager hopes to show with his project that there is no such thing as a stereotypical Dutch person and that everyone living in the Netherlands is Dutch.
Why the pre-order?
Let me be straight to the point first, this is not a project for me to make money. Period! Pinky promise!
However, with all projects that matter, there’s a lot of effort and personal investment. And I’m not talking about my time invested. I do all of this with great pleasure.
I am committed and believe this project is going to fulfill its goals. Not just in finalizing, but also in the main goals of creating awareness and understanding within the Netherlands, and perhaps beyond.
In my endeavor to finish this project, there are hurdles to take. Some are emotional, mostly from feedback from people who don’t understand what we’re doing (yet), but also practical. For example, I have some people who are interested in joining the project, who are refugees in this country and are unable to pay for travel and expenses to be part of this project. I have already invested a lot of my personal time and money, and I am at this point unable to cover these additional expenses.
I am determined to finish this project to the best of my ability, but I do realize I can’t do it without help.
This leaves me with launching this pre-order of the book to help give people the opportunity to be part of this project and help cover the costs for finalizing the project.
